Bespoke Policy Writing

Insequa what asked by a Residential Aged Care provider in Victoria to assist with developing new company policies. On 19th June 2019 the Voluntary Assisted Dying Act came into force in Victoria, giving people at the end of life who are suffering and who meet strict eligibility criteria the right to request access to voluntary assisted dying. As Residential Aged Care provider, this client needed to have a Company policy outlining their position and explaining how the Act would be accommodated in their organisation. At the same time, they recognised the need to have a new policy that explained their position on and compliance with the Australian Open Disclosure Framework. This Framework enables and guides open communication with the recipients of health and care services, and their families, when things don’t go to plan.

Both of these policies were needed urgently and therefore the company took a decision to outsource their preparation and writing. They came to Insequa for this support.

The team at Insequa:

  • Researched the relevant Commonwealth and State legislation and guidance and formulated the body other policies based on this
  • Identified where and how the operations and responsibilities required by these policies related to the Aged Care Standards and clearly identified this within documents
  • Agreed the style format and document structure with the client
  • Applied the ‘Instructional Design’ elements we have learned help to improve the communication efficacy of care policies
  • Wrote the policy documents and presented drafts to the client for review
  • Addressed the client comments
  • Presented finalised, bespoke policy documents to the client within 1 week of receiving the request.
